CPU

The CPU stands for Central Processing Unit.  Although, IT experts refer to it basically as the CPU because that's where the processor is, and that's where the real work gets done.

The whole essence of computing is done in the CPU. The entire components found in the CPU or compartment can be called the computer.  This compartment is made up of different parts that help in word, numbers and pictures processing and storage too. We will take a close look at the parts enclosed in the CPU compartment and their functions.

The CPU or Processor

The question that comes up on everyone’s mind is the difference and relationship between the CPU and other components of the whole unit.

The CPU here can be called the processor. This is the actual part of the computer components that processes data.

The processor is equipped with special memory circuits called registers, floating point unit (FTU) and pipelines. These components have different functions making the processor the superman you can say!

The register holds data before and after processing.

The FTU handles mathematical calculations, while

The pipeline processes commands.

The CPU or processor uses what is called a clock speed, which is measured on how many calculation cycles a CPU execute its processes per second. Although the later is determined also by the speed the motherboard itself could handle.

Today computers attain their worth and name due to the speed of the processor and RAM. The higher the processing speed and RAM the more expensive and worth.
