Computer Hardware Components

Computer hardware includes the following:

Keyboard

Monitor

CPU

Mouse

Printer

Keyboard

The keyboard is one of the input device part of a computer, input in the sense that it is used to insert information into the computer in the forms of letters and numbers.  It’s looks more or less like a typewriter, or  like the part you type on cellular phones, except it's bigger and has more buttons. . On most conventional computers, it is a separate device, connected by a cord to the computer, or linked via infrared (wireless), in some computers the keyboard is built together with the monitor e.g. a laptop computer.

Monitor

The best example to describe a monitor is, the part that looks a lot like a TV set. This is the part that falls into the output category and displays all information you type in with the keyboard and other connected network devices. Generally it shows pictures, words and numbers. When you type things on the keyboard, the letters and numbers show up on the monitor, the monitor is also called the Display Monitor, or The Screen.

 The mouse

The mouse is an input device and it can be said to be a pointer too. Although some modern computers like the laptop has a touch pad that works like the mouse. The mouse is connected to the CPU with a cable, or via infrared (wireless) for the modern mouse.

The mouse is used on a flat surface and has a roller ball underneath that makes it easier to move around the screen and two flat buttons on the topside for clicking to select a task on the screen. These buttons are on the right and left side of the mouse. With time you will learn to left or right click; this is the whole philosophy of the mouse “pointing and clicking” with both right and left buttons.

When you move your mouse to a point where you want an event to take place, you click to make that event happen.

The left area is generally used for issuing commands to your computer, while the right side is use for accessing special menus.
