Microsoft PowerPoint Overview
Microsoft PowerPoint is used for presentation. It is mostly used in seminars, meetings and conferences. A PowerPoint presentation is a collection of electronic slides that can have text, pictures, graphics, tables, sound and video. The presentation runs in slides, the slides switches over automatically or manually in sequence as you do your introduction or teaching whichever is the case may be.
Below is a blank PowerPoint presentation window, we will begin with a blank window for now and later in our lesson we insert texts, graphic, pictures etc. This will help you understand the difference.
Most Microsoft programs are similar in design. Like The word processor, Excel and Access; PowerPoint has the Ribbon, which contains most of the tools you will need to carry out your work.
We will look at these tools below:
The Ribbon
The ribbon is the panel at the top portion of the document. It contain tabs, Home, Insert, Design, Animations, Slide Show, Review and View. Each tab is divided into groups. The groups contains collections other tools you can use to in developing or editing your PowerPoint slides.
Tabs overview
Home: Clipboard, Slides, Font, Paragraph, Drawing, and Editing.
Insert: Tables, Illustrations, Links, Text, and Media Clips.
Design: Page Setup, Themes, Background.
Animations: Preview, Animations, Transition to this Slide.
Slide Show: Start Slide Show, Set Up, Monitors.
Review: Proofing, Comments, Protect.
View: Presentation Views, Show/Hide, Zoom, Window, Macros.
Microsoft Office Button
The Microsoft Office Button performs many of the functions. This button allows you to create a new presentation, Open an existing presentation, save and save as, print, send, or close.
Quick Access Toolbar
The quick access toolbar contains commands that you use to customise you slides shows. It contains many other hidden tools, which can be viewed by clicking on the arrow beside it.
Navigation
You can navigate between slides with the Slide Navigation menu on the left side of the screen. Some times the navigations menu provides for a quick access to slides.
